It’s October in Breckenridge and Summer Season is winding down. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp.. And Main Street is navigable! Many may consider this time of year a less desirable time to visit but, at least in our humble opinion here at Ski Country, they would be wrong. Yes, yes. We may be a bit bias and believe that there’s really NO time of year that is undesirable to visit Breckenridge.. But Fall truly is one of our favorite times to enjoy the beautiful scenery, explore the town while it is less crowded and take advantage of the incredible DISCOUNTS! That’s right, while many may refer to this time of year as ‘Spooky Season’ the mountain town locals here in Breckenridge fondly know this season as ‘2-4-1 Season.’
Earning its nickname from restaurants offering two for the price of one entrees during off season, in the beginning ‘2-4-1 Season’ was a treat enjoyed only (or at least mainly) by locals. But, as the notion caught on and restaurants embraced the idea of the opportunity to entice more business during what was typically their slower season, the concept took off! What was once a discount given to a familiar face is now documented in a detailed pamphlet listing different deals sorted by restaurant. And this handy discount dining guide has been dubbed the ‘Breckenridge Dining Passport.’
Each Fall, beginning sometime at the end of September or beginning of October, the new Dining Passport is released in all its glory! A true foodie’s dream, the booklet offers those in its possession the opportunity to treat Breckenridge as their culinary destination. Although the deals may differ a bit from those of the past (restaurants not being constrained to the ‘two for the price of one’ discount) the savings are still considerable. This Fall Season, for example, the popular Carboy Winery is offering a four-course meal for an unbelievable price of $25!
Dining Passports can be purchased at all participating restaurants or the Breckenridge Welcome Center and are valid for two people. The cost is simply a $10 donation that benefits Summit County Cares (including the Summit Community Cares Clinic, FIRC, Advocates for Victims of Assault and Social Services). Click Here For More Info

Otherwise commonly known as “Day of the Dead” this multi-day, traditional Mexican holiday celebrates ancestors and loved ones who’ve passed. However, this is not a day of sadness. Instead its a day where the dead are believed to come alive to celebrate with family and friends, and to come together to support one another’s spiritual journeys. If you want to skip the canvas all together and focus your efforts on picking up on hints of this and aromas of that, Breckenridge has two spectacular ‘urban’ wineries offering up some fantastic wines for your taste buds. First, we recommend you stop by Continental Divide Winery (location in Main Street Station) and take part in their Wine Blending Experience where you are given the opportunity to taste and craft your own custom blend of red wine and then bottle/cork it up and take it home as the perfect Breckenridge souvenir. Next, we suggest you head over to Carboy Winery (sharing a space with the Gold Pan Saloon) and reward yourself for a hard day’s work as winemaker with their $40 bottle and cheese board deal. Feeling like you’re on cloud ‘wine’ and want to keep going? Make your final stop Ridge Street Wine (hidden just between Main & Ridge Streets) for their nightly wine flights that can be paired with your choice of cheese and/or chocolates. While the weather can, admittedly, be fickle in Fall, Mother Nature does still typically offer us plenty of days we can devote to being outside before the snow takes over in the months to come. If you haven’t yet, we recommend you visit our local troll Isak Heartstone at Illinois Gulch Trail and snap a photo with him. Otherwise, there are seemingly endless possibilities when it comes to hiking in Breckenridge, from beginner to advanced.
